The London Community Foundation. Why London? As one of the wealthiest cities in the world, it’s hard to believe that London also has the highest rates of poverty ...
I am proud to say that I designed their very first ever Annual Report! The initial stage was the briefing where I listened carefully to the clients goals, challenges and vision. They wanted to create an annual report that pushed the boundaries of their current brand and acted as a marketing tool. This was a crucial stage as with any design project the initial briefing is all about communication and listening to your clients needs.
Think of it like this; imagine going into a high street clothing store and telling the sales assistant that you’re looking for an elegant blouse, ‘Sure’ she says ‘we’ve got loads of great tops, I can sell you one but I cant let you see it’ – you’d obviously walk out… This is what design is like…when clients buy design from a new designer they don’t know what they are buying until it is delivered.
It’s a great challenge, but by listening and implementing the free initial ideas approach we avoided unhappiness and failed projects! I presented three ideas as ‘safe' ‘medium' and ‘brave'.
The feedback on the Annual Review has been absolutely wonderful.
'You’ve really brought to life our stories and our impact, and it’s safe to say the team will be using the publication with smiles on their faces for the year ahead. Thank you Izzy'.
- Becky Crosweller, London Community Foundation.
The ideas above were created as initial ideas for the client to choose from. The first one was classified as 'safe', which was a booklet. The second idea 'medium' is a newspaper and the final version as brave - which is a map-fold concertina.
